Karachi: K-Electric (KE) concluded the 4th edition of the KHI Awards, recognizing 45 organizations for their impactful contributions to Karachi’s social development. The event, held on Friday, celebrated winners across 13 categories, with this year’s grant allocation seeing a 50% year-on-year increase—disbursed as electricity rebates.

Record Participation and Rigorous Selection Process

A total of 166 entries were received this year, including 41 first-time applicants. Following a rigorous audit, 129 applicants qualified to present their projects before an independent jury. The awards, themed “Khidmat Ka Jazba Rahe Roshan Sada,” highlighted institutional philanthropy across diverse fields, including public health, education, sustainability, safety, vocational training, digital accessibility, and heritage preservation.

Leadership’s Commitment to Social Impact

Moonis Alvi, CEO of K-Electric, reaffirmed KE’s dedication to fostering social change:

“The KHI Awards have evolved into an institutional platform that not only celebrates impact but also unites changemakers working towards a better Karachi. With the support of KE’s Board, we have increased the reward pool to PKR 60 million, reinforcing our belief in community-driven initiatives.”

Saad Amanullah Khan, Chairperson of the KHI Awards Jury, emphasized the collaborative spirit of the initiative:

“No single entity can drive progress alone—it takes an ecosystem of changemakers. The KHI Awards create a transparent, independent platform, evaluated by a distinguished jury and backed by global audit firm EY, ensuring that recognition is awarded solely on merit.”

Women-Led Organizations Shine

This year’s awards celebrated the achievements of nine women-led organizations, showcasing the growing role of women in Karachi’s socio-economic development.

Sadia Dada, Chief Distribution and Marcomms Officer at KE, highlighted the transparency behind the awards:

“Our goal was to create an equitable and transparent corporate giving platform. This year, 166 organizations stepped forward to make a difference, and I am delighted to see so many inspiring changemakers gathered here today.”

Recognizing Excellence in Social Development

Several leading organizations were recognized for their dedication to uplifting Karachi. Among them, KDSP, KVTC, Saylani, Kharadar General Hospital, and GIA secured two awards each. Esteemed institutions like HANDS, Indus Hospital, LRBT, and Bait-ul-Sukoon also emerged as winners.

The KHI Awards 2024 welcomed 10 first-time winners, including Durbeen, Dream Foundation Trust, Tehrik-e-Niswan, Charter for Compassion, Transparent Hands, and Mehrdar Art & Production, acknowledging their remarkable impact across various sectors.

By amplifying social impact and fostering collaboration, KE’s KHI Awards continue to serve as a catalyst for positive change in Karachi.
