Referring to a report by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT), Babar noted that women hold 60 reserved seats in the National Assembly but have demonstrated substantial interest and participation in parliamentary proceedings.
He said women lawmakers had introduced legislation on important issues that their male colleagues had not addressed. They had also raised several concerns affecting women and actively questioned matters of public importance in Parliament.
Former Senator Raises Concerns Over Parliamentary Strength
Responding to a question, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Farhatullah Babar acknowledged that Parliament had passed several positive laws at different stages of the country’s political history.
However, he expressed concern over what he described as the institution’s weakening position, raising questions about the state of democracy in Pakistan.
Babar observed that the same Parliament that had framed the Constitution and introduced significant legislation appeared institutionally weak today.
