The government and Jamaat-e-Islami will hold final negotiations on November 3 over the gradual abolition of the petroleum levy and measures to provide relief to the public, the party’s Deputy Emir, Liaquat Baloch, said on Saturday.
Baloch said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had contacted him through WhatsApp to inform him of the meeting date. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal also spoke to him by telephone and said arrangements were being made for the negotiations.
Petroleum Levy Withdrawal at Centre of Talks
According to Baloch, the primary objective of the negotiations is to secure the gradual withdrawal of the petroleum levy and provide relief to people facing rising living costs.
He said the government must take practical steps to ease the public’s financial burden and deliver the promised relief.
Jamaat-e-Islami Warns of Long March
Baloch warned that Jamaat-e-Islami would launch a long march from Multan to Islamabad if the government failed to provide relief.
He said the party would organise public rallies in Quetta, Mirpurkhas, Bahawalpur, Mansehra and Sargodha ahead of the proposed march.
