Football superstar Lionel Messi is set to reach a new generation of fans through animation, as Disney prepares to launch Messi and the Giants, a children’s fantasy series inspired by the values associated with the Argentine legend’s sporting journey.
Scheduled to premiere worldwide in summer 2027 on Disney+ and Disney Channel in the United States, the series will blend soccer, adventure and fantasy in a story aimed at young viewers and families.
Rather than recounting Messi’s real-life rise to global fame, the show introduces a fictional world where determination, courage and teamwork help its characters overcome extraordinary challenges.
A Soccer Adventure in a World of Giants
The story follows Leo, a 12-year-old boy who finds himself transported to Iko, an alternate universe inhabited by giants.
Stranded in this unfamiliar world, Leo must rely on his soccer skills, resilience and ability to work with others to find his way home. Along the journey, he faces powerful opponents in high-stakes, soccer-inspired orb battles.

The storyline draws on themes often associated with Messi’s career, including perseverance, discipline and the determination to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles.
Through its fantasy setting, the series aims to introduce younger audiences to these values while offering longtime football fans a new way to connect with the sport.
Messi Joins the Project as Executive Producer
Messi is attached to the project as an executive producer, bringing a direct connection to the football star whose name and sporting legacy inspired the series.
The production involves Sony Pictures Television and Sony Music Vision, while Atlantis Animation is responsible for the animation.
Actor Milo Burgess-Webb voices the central character, Leo. Argentine singer Luck Ra performs the original theme song, titled “Vamos, Vamos, Vamos.”
The creative team combines animated storytelling with soccer-inspired action to build a fictional universe designed for younger audiences.
Disney Targets a New Generation of Football Fans
The project brings together Messi’s international popularity and Disney’s established presence in family entertainment.
For children discovering soccer for the first time, Messi and the Giants offers an introduction to the sport through an adventure rather than a traditional biographical account.
For existing fans, the series provides a fictional interpretation of the determination and teamwork associated with Messi’s career.
With its planned 2027 launch, the show will expand the football star’s presence beyond the pitch and into children’s entertainment.
