Pakistan-Malaysia Friendship Celebrated Through Flavours at Karachi Event

Pakistan-Malaysia friendship took on a culinary dimension at a special event in Karachi, where Malaysian and Pakistani flavours brought guests together to celebrate shared cultural values.

Malaysian Consul General Muhammad Younus bin Ibrahim said food could bring nations closer without requiring lengthy discussions about history, trade or diplomacy.

“Food needs no translation,” he said while speaking at “Taste of Malaysia,” an event held at the Karachi Marriott Hotel in collaboration with the Consulate General of Malaysia.

The Consul General said Pakistan and Malaysia may be geographically distant, but their people share strong family traditions, hospitality and a deep appreciation for food.

Malaysian Cuisine Reflects Cultural Diversity

Younus bin Ibrahim said Malaysian cuisine reflects the country’s rich cultural diversity. Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences have combined to create Malaysia’s distinctive culinary identity.

He noted that Pakistan also has a diverse culinary heritage. Dishes such as biryani, nihari and kebabs, along with numerous regional cuisines, reflect the country’s traditions and renowned hospitality.

“The purpose of Taste of Malaysia is not to decide which cuisine is better, Pakistani or Malaysian, but to discover what we have in common and appreciate each other’s unique flavours and cultures,” he said.

He expressed hope that cultural events of this kind would further strengthen people-to-people relations between Pakistan and Malaysia.

Distinguished Guests Attend Event

The event brought together diplomats, business leaders, professionals, social figures and members of the hospitality sector.

Guests included Honorary Consul General of Côte d’Ivoire Fazal Karim Dadabhoy, Sheikh Imtiaz Hussain, Captain Asif Sheikh Javed, Athar Hussain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Chef Banish, Chef Farah, Greenland Travel’s Qayoom Kati, former KATI president Junaid Naqi, Thai Consul General Surashet Boontinand and Ahsan Mehnati.

Officials and staff from the Malaysian Consulate also attended, along with Karachi Marriott Hotel General Manager Raza Abbas.

Malaysian Flavours Take Centre Stage

Guests sampled a variety of traditional Malaysian dishes during the event, highlighting the country’s diverse culinary traditions.

The Malaysian Consul General thanked Sheikh Imtiaz Hussain, the event sponsors and the Karachi Marriott Hotel for their support.

He concluded his remarks with a message celebrating the longstanding ties between the two countries: “Malaysia, Pakistan Dosti Zindabad.”
