The controversy emerged after an Ayodhya-based Hindu religious leader reportedly announced a reward for killing the actor. At the same time, a Muslim cleric reportedly issued a fatwa objecting to Aamir’s interfaith marriage.
However, Aamir denied allegations that he deliberately marries Hindu women and converts them to Islam. He clarified that Gauri Spratt is Christian, not Hindu.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Aamir said neither Gauri, his former wife Kiran Rao nor his first wife Reena Dutta converted their religion. According to the actor, all three marriages took place under civil law.
Furthermore, Aamir said Gauri remained a Christian after their marriage. He dismissed claims circulating on social media that she had converted to Islam.
The actor also highlighted the diversity within his own family. For example, he said both of his sisters are married to Hindu men, while his daughter Ira Khan is also married to a Hindu. In addition, he said his cousin Mansoor Khan is married to a Christian.
Therefore, Aamir said the allegations against his personal life have no factual basis and do not reflect his family’s approach to interfaith relationships.
