Lakki Marwat — A police constable was martyred in a gun attack carried out by unidentified terrorists in the Kaichi Kamar area of Lakki Marwat on Sunday, police officials confirmed.
According to the spokesperson for the Lakki Marwat District Police Officer (DPO), Qudratullah Khan, armed assailants targeted Constable Irfanullah near his residence in the trans-river belt area known as Kurrum Par.
The attack took place within the jurisdiction of Dadiwala Police Station. Police said the constable sustained critical bullet injuries and succumbed to his wounds while being shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Serai Naurang.
Officials stated that the martyred policeman was serving in Peshawar and had returned to his native village on leave at the time of the incident.
Following the attack, a heavy police contingent reached the area and launched a search operation to trace and apprehend the attackers.
The incident comes amid a fresh wave of militant violence targeting law enforcement personnel in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Just a day earlier, unidentified terrorists reportedly attacked the residence of another police official with explosives in Lakki Marwat’s Shadikhel area, causing extensive damage to the property.
In a separate incident earlier this week, a police constable embraced martyrdom during a fierce exchange of fire after militants attacked a police post in the same area.
Security officials say districts including Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Bajaur, and Lakki Marwat have witnessed a rise in terrorist incidents over recent months, with law enforcement agencies continuing targeted operations against militant networks.
Earlier in April, five policemen, including an officer, were injured in an explosion in Shahbazkhel, while another operation on April 20 resulted in the killing of two terrorists and the martyrdom of a police constable in Lakki Marwat.
