Karachi: The Consulate General of Malaysia in Karachi, in collaboration with the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad, hosted a grand reception at the Marriott Hotel to celebrate the 68th Anniversary of Malaysia’s Independence and the 62nd Anniversary of Malaysia Day.
The event was graced by Mr. Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Speaker Sindh Assembly and Acting Governor Sindh, as Chief Guest. It was also attended by H.E. Dato’ Mohamad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, business leaders, academia, media representatives, and friends of Malaysia.
In his address, H.E. Herman Hardynata Ahmad, Consul General of Malaysia in Karachi, highlighted the enduring friendship between Malaysia and Pakistan, noting strong collaboration across trade, tourism, education, and people-to-people linkages.
Trade ties remain robust, with Malaysia–Pakistan trade reaching USD 898 million in the first seven months of 2025, and a trade surplus of USD 358 million, driven by palm oil and processed food exports. Tourism saw strong growth, with over 61,000 Pakistani visitors traveling to Malaysia between January and June 2025—a 35.6% increase from last year. Education is also a pillar of cooperation, with 5,015 Pakistani students enrolled in Malaysian universities, supported by 24 MoUs and scholarships.
The Consul General also recalled the success of the “Jom! Malaysia Chalo!” exhibition in Karachi earlier this week, which showcased Malaysia’s strengths in education, trade, tourism, and culture, with participation from ASEAN member states—Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam—reflecting Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship.
“The bonds between Malaysia and Pakistan are forged through friendship, faith, and mutual respect. As we celebrate our 68th Independence Day, we look forward with optimism to a future of deeper cooperation and shared prosperity,” said the Consul General.
The evening concluded with cultural performances, traditional Malaysian hospitality, and networking between diplomats, business leaders, and the Pakistani community, further strengthening bilateral ties.
