Real Madrid confirmed that Diomande has signed a seven-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2033.
Transfer Could Set Club Record
Although Real Madrid did not reveal the financial details, Spanish media reported that the deal could be worth up to €125 million, with an additional €10-15 million in performance-related bonuses.
If confirmed, the transfer would surpass the reported €103 million Real Madrid paid for Jude Bellingham in 2023, making Diomande the club’s most expensive signing.
Rapid Rise to European Football
Diomande enjoyed an outstanding 2025-26 campaign with RB Leipzig. He scored 12 goals and provided nine assists, earning the Bundesliga Young Player of the Season award.
The youngster began his football journey in his home country before moving to a football academy in the United States in 2025. Later, he joined Spanish club Leganés before securing a move to Leipzig.
Reports suggest Leipzig wanted to keep the player. However, Diomande preferred joining one of Europe’s biggest clubs, while the German side found the reported transfer fee difficult to reject.
Real Madrid Continue Squad Rebuild
Real Madrid appointed Jose Mourinho as head coach in June after finishing second in LaLiga and exiting the UEFA Champions League in the quarter-finals last season.
The Portuguese manager has returned for his second spell at the club after previously coaching Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013.
Meanwhile, the club has strengthened its squad by signing Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, and now Yan Diomande ahead of the new season.
