X-Men Marvel Reveals Cast and 2028 Release Date at D23

X-Men will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new film arriving in cinemas on May 5, 2028, Marvel Studios announced at Disney’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California.

Marvel revealed several major cast members during the Disney Entertainment Showcase on Friday, August 14.

Kit Connor will play Cyclops, while Inde Navarrette will portray Rogue. Christopher Abbott will take on the role of Professor Xavier, and Samara Weaving will play Emma Frost.

Maya Boyd has joined the cast as Storm, while Sadie Sink will portray Jean Grey.

Adam Driver will also appear in the film as Nathaniel Milbury, the identity used by the Marvel supervillain Mr. Sinister.

Jake Schreier will direct the film. Schreier previously directed Thunderbolts, which was released in 2025.

The new movie will introduce the X-Men’s mutants into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Marvel has not yet revealed major plot details or explained how the characters will connect with existing MCU storylines.

The cast announcement came during Disney’s entertainment showcase at D23 in Anaheim. The event featured announcements about upcoming films, television projects, experiences and products across Disney’s entertainment divisions.

The new X-Men film will arrive several years after the announcement. Marvel has confirmed the release date but has yet to provide further details about the story.

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is Disney’s biennial convention, where the company previews upcoming projects and celebrates its entertainment franchises. This year’s event is taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center from Friday through Sunday.
