Maula Jatt Pakistani blockbuster wins two awards at Jackie Chan action film festival

Maula Jatt has won two awards at the seventh Jackie Chan International Action Film Week in China, marking another major international achievement for Pakistani cinema.

Directed by Bilal Lashari, The Legend of Maula Jatt received the Special Jury Award and Best Art Direction Award at the closing ceremony of the event.

Lashari announced the achievement on Instagram and described the recognition alongside films including Mortal Kombat 2 and The Furious as an “incredible” moment.

The director also shared details of the award ceremony, which took place on an outdoor stage during heavy rain. He said he became completely drenched before reaching the microphone, while a stranger held an umbrella over him.

The Best Art Direction Award carried particular significance for Lashari. He credited production designers Nimsah Abbasi and Hamza Bajwa for creating the film’s distinctive visual world.

Lashari also described representing Pakistan at an event named after legendary actor Jackie Chan as a dream come true. He recalled growing up watching Chan’s films and said meeting the actor in person was an unforgettable experience.

According to Lashari, Chan congratulated him on the film, something the director said he had never imagined when he first began working on The Legend of Maula Jatt.

He thanked producer Ammara Hikmat and other collaborators for supporting the film’s journey in China. He also dedicated the latest international recognition to Pakistan.

Released as a reboot of the 1979 cult classic, The Legend of Maula Jatt features Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick, Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi and Ali Azmat in key roles.

The latest awards further strengthen the film’s international profile and highlight the growing global recognition of Pakistani cinema.
