Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left the Toronto Blue Jays’ 3-1 win over the New York Yankees on Friday after an accidental collision at third base left him with a blow to the head.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said after the game that Guerrero was undergoing tests under the concussion protocol.
The incident occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning with Toronto batting. Nathan Lukes stood on second base while Guerrero occupied first, with one out.
George Springer hit a ground ball toward third. Yankees third baseman McMahon fielded it, stepped on third for the force and immediately threw toward first.
The throw bounced before reaching first baseman Luis Garcia Jr. The ball then rolled between Garcia and the pitcher’s mound.

Guerrero saw the loose ball and sprinted toward third base. Meanwhile, Yankees shortstop George Lombard Jr. raced toward the bag to receive the throw and attempt a tag.
The ball got away from Lombard. As Guerrero came up from his slide, Lombard’s knee accidentally struck the Blue Jays first baseman in the head.
Guerrero quickly got back on his feet and scored while the ball rolled into foul territory. His run tied the game at 1-1.
A trainer then escorted Guerrero to the Toronto dugout. He did not return to the field for the seventh inning, with Charles McAdoo taking over at first base.
Toronto scored another run later in the game to move ahead and eventually secured a 3-1 victory over New York.
Guerrero went 1-for-3 in the game. The six-time All-Star entered the contest with a .263 batting average, a .337 on-base percentage and a .356 slugging percentage.
