Ukraine seeks additional Patriot missiles as Russia intensifies drone and missile attacks.
Ukraine is contracting the supply of around 1,000 missiles for US-designed Patriot air defence systems, Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Khmara said most of the missiles would arrive in the coming years.
He urged Ukraine’s allies to provide more immediate air defence support.
Khmara said Ukraine was asking Western partners to provide additional air defence missiles from their existing stocks.
In return, Kyiv has proposed improvements to missile performance under contracts signed with its partners.

He also said Ukraine faces a $27 billion funding shortfall for drone supplies.
The defence minister called for urgent international support to address the gap.
According to Ukraine’s Defence Ministry, Khmara presented a plan for the country’s ongoing war effort.
He also outlined what Kyiv considers the biggest threats from Russia.
Khmara said Russia had made no strategic gains along the 1,200-kilometre front line.
He accused Moscow of compensating for battlefield setbacks through attacks on Ukrainian civilians.
Russia resumed near-daily drone and missile attacks on Kyiv on Tuesday.
The attacks came after a brief pause linked to a visit by US peace negotiators.
Ukrainian officials said five people were killed in Kyiv. Other casualties were also reported in several regions.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte told the meeting that Ukraine’s allies must strengthen their support.
He said increased assistance would help Kyiv defend its airspace.
Rutte also said stronger support could allow Ukraine to take advantage of opportunities across the battlefield.
