Dr Bakheet Ateek, highlights Arabic

language opportunities, bilateral friendship

and educational development

Staff Reporter

Karachi: The Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Karachi, Dr Bakheet Ateek Al-Remeithi, visited the Arabic Department at the University of Karachi (KU) on Tuesday, alongside KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, to strengthen cultural ties, promote the Arabic language, and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.

During an interactive session with faculty and students, Dr Bakheet Ateek expressed his delight at seeing people from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds coexisting harmoniously at KU. He noted that such diversity reflects Pakistan’s peaceful image and its commitment to unity.

Having served in Pakistan for over 25 years, Dr Bakheet shared his experiences traveling across Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he personally oversaw UAE-sponsored assistance to local communities. He emphasized that his mission has always been to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and friendship between Pakistan and the UAE.

Highlighting the vast employment opportunities in the Arab world, Dr Bakheet urged students to focus on learning Arabic to enhance their global career prospects. He assured the Arabic Department of his full cooperation in promoting language proficiency and academic exchanges.

“Pakistan is a talented nation,” he said. “With sincerity and unity, we can work together for a brighter future.”

KU Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Iraqi thanked the UAE delegation for their support and stressed that education is the foundation of national progress. “Our identity across the globe is Pakistan, and we must take pride in it,” he stated. He also paid tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their courage and victory in the recent Pakistan-India conflict, calling it the “Battle of Truth,” while reiterating that peace and dialogue based on equality and justice remain essential.

Dr Khalid Iraqi also underscored the need for skill development aligned with modern demands to keep Pakistan’s workforce competitive in the global market.

The visit concluded with a tree-planting ceremony at the Arabic Department, marking the launch of a new environmental initiative. Dr Khalid Iraqi and Dr Bakheet Ateek jointly planted a sapling, symbolizing a commitment to sustainable growth and collaboration.
