Turkish Consul General in Karachi, Mr.. Cemal Sangu

underscored the importance of education

as a pillar for national development

Staff Reporter

Karachi: Turkish Consul General in Karachi, Mr. Cemal Sangu, underscored the importance of education as a pillar for national development at a dinner reception celebrating educational initiatives in Turkiye. Speaking at his residence, Mr. Sangu emphasized that no country can progress without prioritizing quality education, science, and technology. The event was attended by current and former education ministers, visiting Turkish educators, and prominent figures from Pakistan’s educational sector.

Education as a Pillar of Modern Society

Mr. Sangu highlighted that education builds modern, strong societies by instilling cultural, historical, scientific, and technological knowledge. “Education is the most powerful weapon in the world,” he quoted Nelson Mandela, stressing that education teaches values and fosters societal development. He praised Pakistan’s Pak-Turk Maarif Schools, which provide education to 13,000 students across the country, offering both Pakistani and Cambridge curricula in institutions from preschool to A-level.

Educational Initiatives Supported by Turkiye

The Turkish Diyanet Foundation collaborates with Pakistani NGOs to run girls’ schools, serving over 1,500 students and providing essentials like solar energy systems, drinking water, school supplies, and uniforms. The foundation also offers training and certification to 800 teachers. Additionally, the Turkish Red Crescent Society partners with local NGOs to operate “Star Schools” in Karachi’s Korangi and Orangi areas, enhancing educational access in underserved communities.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) is actively supporting education in Sindh, upgrading nine schools with energy systems, establishing computer labs, refurbishing public schools, and equipping them with libraries, music rooms, and specialized gardens for children with disabilities.

Scholarship Opportunities for Pakistani Students

Mr. Sangu announced that applications for Turkish government scholarships for Pakistani students will open at the end of December. These scholarships cover travel expenses, boarding, and pocket money, providing an opportunity for Pakistani students to pursue higher education in Turkiye. “This initiative not only enriches our academic institutions but also strengthens the bonds between our nations,” he added, encouraging Pakistani students to apply.

Strengthening Educational Ties

The event, hosted by Tri-Star Education at the Turkish Consulate in Karachi, celebrated the educational partnership between Turkiye and Pakistan. Representatives from prestigious Turkish universities, over 25 student counselors from leading Pakistani schools, and Tri-Star Education’s CEO and Founder, Mr. Danish Ahmed, joined the Consul General in highlighting the collaborative educational efforts between the two nations.
