Turkish Consulate Hosts Ottoman Descendant Kenize Mourad in Karachi

Karachi: The Turkish Consulate in Karachi welcomed Kenize Mourad, a renowned novelist, journalist, and descendant of Ottoman Sultan Murad V. A special dinner reception was organized to honor her visit.

Strengthening Cultural Ties
The event strengthened cultural ties and promoted relations between Türkiye and Pakistan. Guests enjoyed Turkish and Pakistani cuisines, reflecting the shared heritage of the two nations.

Book Signing Ceremony
Kenize Mourad signed copies of her book “In the Land of the Pure” during the event. She presented the signed books to the Governor of Sindh and the Chief Minister of Sindh.

Prominent Attendees
The dinner reception was attended by the Governor of Sindh Kamran Tessori, Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Women Wing President Faryal Talpur, Speaker of the Sindh Assembly Syed Awais Qadir Shah, and Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjhar. Other distinguished guests from various fields also participated.

Kenize Mourad’s Legacy
Kenize Mourad, born in Paris in 1940, is celebrated for exploring themes of identity and exile in her work. She is the daughter of Selma Rauf Hanımsultan, an Ottoman princess, and Syed Sajid Husain, Nawab of Kotwara. Her heritage bridges the Ottoman Empire and South Asia.

Literary Achievements
Her first book, “Memories of a Dead Princess” (1987), became a global bestseller and was translated into 34 languages. She has authored several other notable works, including “Le Jardin de Badalpour,” “Our Sacred Land: Voices of the Palestine-Israel Conflict,” and “In the City of Silver and Gold: The Story of Hazrat Mahal.”
