Weekly Inflation Pakistan’s SPI Inflation Rises to 9.29%

Weekly inflation in Pakistan increased by 0.28% during the latest week, while the annual inflation rate climbed to 9.29%, according to the latest Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Petrol Prices Government Cuts Petrol, Diesel Rates in Fresh Revision

The report showed that prices of 20 essential commodities increased during the week. Meanwhile, the prices of nine items declined.

Food Prices Record Fresh Increase

Onions posted the biggest weekly increase, rising 10.14%. Additionally, chicken prices climbed 9.19%, followed by gram pulse at 2.43%.

Chilli powder rose 1.01%, while ghee and cooking oil increased 0.99%. Tea prices edged up 0.57%, and wheat flour became 0.52% more expensive.

Some Essential Items Become Cheaper

However, several commodities recorded weekly price declines.

Tomato prices fell 6.82%, followed by LPG at 1.90%. Diesel prices dropped 1.66%, while petrol became 0.63% cheaper.

Bananas declined 1.20%, sugar fell 0.51%, and plain bread eased 0.29% during the week.

Annual Inflation Remains Elevated

On a year-on-year basis, tomatoes recorded the sharpest increase of 178.03%. Similarly, onion prices surged 84.65%, while wheat flour jumped 80.02%.

LPG prices increased 53.83%, diesel rose 34.44%, and petrol climbed 25.97% over the past year.

Furthermore, chilli powder increased 16.37%, mutton 16.12%, bananas 15.11%, beef 13.81%, and plain bread 9.37%.

Several Commodities Show Annual Decline

Despite higher overall inflation, some products became cheaper compared with the same period last year.

Potato prices fell 30.65%, while gram pulse declined 17.86%. Sugar dropped 17.60%, and chicken prices decreased 15.65%.

Moreover, powdered salt fell 14.09%, masoor pulse declined 13.02%, eggs dropped 9.66%, and moong pulse eased 6.25%.
