Turkish Consul General Bids Farewell, Calls Karachi “Safest Place to Live”

Karachi: Outgoing Consul General of the Republic of Turkiye, Dr. Cemal Sangu, described Pakistan and Turkiye as “more than real brothers,” noting that the people of both nations have always stood together in times of war, natural disasters, and humanitarian crises. He was addressing a farewell Hi-Tea reception hosted by Mr. Muhammad Irfan Soomro, Director General Ministry of Foreign Affairs Liaison Office Karachi, at the State Guest House.

Distinguished Gathering at Farewell Reception

The reception was attended by a distinguished audience, including former Governor and Interior Minister Lt Gen (R) Moinuddin Haider, several former ambassadors, diplomats based in Karachi, business leaders, industrialists, and prominent celebrities. Senior MOFA officials including Deputy DG Ms. Sadia Gohar Khanum and officer Ms. Marium also addressed the gathering.

Karachi “Safest and Friendliest City”

Reflecting on his posting covering Sindh and Balochistan, Dr. Sangu said he traveled extensively across Orangi, Korangi, Baldia Town, New Karachi, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Lyari, and interior Sindh, and never felt any security threat. “I mixed with people, moved freely everywhere—Karachi is the best and safest place to live. People are so friendly and hospitable. Western media propaganda about Pakistan and Karachi is unjust and unfair,” he remarked.

Fond Memories and Emotional Farewell

Dr. Sangu added warmly: “I have only one house in Turkiye, but many houses in Karachi.” The ceremony concluded with the presentation of traditional Sindhi ajrak, cap, and shield to the outgoing Consul General as a gesture of friendship and respect.
