Turkish CG Proposes Strengthening Business Ties with MICADR

Organizing a joint seminar to promote

investment opportunities between

Cemal Sangu, Consul General of Turkiye, alongwith Kowsar Ahmed, Commercial and Economic Specialist, visited Musaliha International Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (MICADR), a flagship project of the Legal Aid Society. Justice (R) Arif Hussain Khilji, Founder and MD, Majyd Aziz, Founding Member Board of Governors, and Sarha Rasheed, Co-Founder and Senior Manager welcomed him.

Karachi: Cemal Sangu, Consul General of Turkiye, emphasized fostering ties between prominent chambers in Turkiye and business counterparts in Pakistan during his visit to the Musaliha International Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (MICADR). He proposed organizing a joint seminar to promote investment opportunities between the two nations.

Accompanied by Ms. Kowsar Ahmed, Commercial and Economic Specialist, Mr. Sangu expressed his admiration for MICADR’s achievements and activities. He assured support in connecting MICADR with Turkish companies operating in Pakistan and highlighted the success of private sector mediation and arbitration in Turkiye, where over five million cases have been resolved.

Promoting Mediation and Arbitration
Justice (R) Arif Hussain Khilji, Founder and Managing Director of MICADR, welcomed the Turkish diplomat and introduced the center’s mission. He acknowledged the influence of Turkiye’s model of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and expressed a desire to deepen collaboration with Turkish counterparts.

Justice (R) Khilji highlighted MICADR’s robust governance structure, comprising retired Supreme Court and Sindh High Court justices, private sector representatives, and academia members.

Engaging the Private Sector
Majyd Aziz, Founding Member of MICADR’s Board of Governors, shared his enthusiasm for promoting mediation and arbitration within the private sector. He underscored the center’s efforts in engaging chambers and associations to advance ADR practices.

State-of-the-Art Dispute Resolution Services
Sarha Rasheed, Co-Founder and Senior Manager of MICADR, provided a detailed presentation on the center’s purpose, activities, and achievements over the past two years. She emphasized MICADR’s state-of-the-art services for resolving disputes for local and international investors, corporate entities, regulatory bodies, and individuals.

MICADR boasts a network of over 100 accredited mediators across Pakistan, enabling efficient and cost-effective services. The center upholds principles such as impartiality, confidentiality, fairness, and pro-bono support for vulnerable groups. Additionally, MICADR engages in research, policymaking, and collaboration with government and judiciary bodies to strengthen ADR frameworks.

Future Collaborations
The visit concluded with a shared commitment to enhance cooperation between MICADR and Turkish stakeholders, fostering a conducive environment for investment and dispute resolution.
