Washington, DC: Donald Trump has been inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States during a ceremony held at the US Capitol Rotunda. The Republican leader, taking office for his second term, used his inaugural address to outline an ambitious agenda while reiterating his grievances against political opponents.

In his speech, Trump pledged to put “America first” and promised to bring about a “golden age of America” during his four-year term. Among his priorities, he highlighted plans to crack down on immigration, restore law and order, and address economic challenges.

Key Promises from Trump’s Inaugural Address

  • Immigration Reforms: Trump announced a national emergency at the southern border, pledging to halt illegal entry and reinstate the controversial “Remain in Mexico” policy. He vowed to initiate mass deportations and designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
  • Economic Recovery: Trump directed his cabinet to prioritize reducing inflation and lowering costs for American families.
  • Energy Policy: The president declared a “national energy emergency,” advocating for increased domestic oil drilling and revoking programs promoting electric vehicles.
  • Border Security: He plans to deploy US troops to the southern border and eliminate foreign criminal networks within the United States.

Protests Against Trump Administration

As Trump took the oath, protests erupted in Washington, DC. Demonstrators marched towards the White House, waving banners and denouncing the new administration’s policies, particularly on immigration and civil rights.

Focus on Foreign Policy and Peace

Trump touted his administration’s role in brokering a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, which led to the release of Israeli captives in Gaza. He criticized his predecessor, Joe Biden, for what he called a failure to apply diplomatic pressure on Israel to end the conflict.

“My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and unifier,” Trump declared during his speech.

Combating Political Opponents

The newly sworn-in president also vowed to restore “fair and impartial justice.” He accused the previous administration of using state power to persecute political opponents, describing his own legal battles as a “witch hunt.”

“Never again will the immense power of the state be used to persecute political opponents,” Trump said, reaffirming his commitment to constitutional rule.

Fact-Checking Trump’s Immigration Claims

Trump repeated a campaign claim that the Biden administration allowed dangerous criminals to enter the country. However, experts and federal data dispute this. Immigration officials arrested approximately 108,000 noncitizens with criminal convictions between 2021 and 2024, but not all were admitted to the US.

Conclusion
Trump’s second term begins with bold promises and a deeply polarized political landscape. As protests continue and critics challenge his rhetoric, the new administration faces significant challenges ahead.
