Trump Hosts Netanyahu and Zelenskiy as Iran, Ukraine Wars Reach Critical Stage

Trump Meetings dominated the international agenda on Tuesday as US President Donald Trump welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to Washington. The visits come as the wars involving Iran and Ukraine enter critical phases and diplomatic efforts intensify.

The two leaders traveled to Washington to attend a memorial service for Senator Lindsey Graham. Afterward, Trump planned separate meetings with Netanyahu and Zelenskiy to discuss regional security, military cooperation and diplomatic initiatives.

Netanyahu Focuses on Iran and Regional Security

Netanyahu arrived as the White House grew increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress toward a broader settlement in the Iran conflict.

Earlier, Trump paused US airstrikes against Iran to give diplomacy another opportunity.

Netanyahu said he would focus on Iran during his talks with Trump. In addition, he pledged to strengthen regional security and expand peace agreements with neighboring countries.

A White House official said Trump and Netanyahu will discuss Iran, Israel-Lebanon tensions and the future of the Abraham Accords.

Trump Pushes for Wider Peace Agreements

Trump continues to encourage Saudi Arabia to join the Abraham Accords.

However, Saudi Arabia insists that any normalization with Israel must include meaningful progress toward Palestinian statehood.

Despite previous disagreements, Trump praised Netanyahu before the meeting.

“Bibi’s been great,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. He also said they had worked effectively together during previous regional crises.

Ukraine Seeks Stronger Air Defenses

Zelenskiy plans to meet Trump privately at the White House.

According to Ukrainian officials, Kyiv urgently needs additional Patriot missile interceptors to counter Russia’s continuing missile and drone attacks.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian delegation hopes to finalize a drone agreement and advance plans to manufacture Patriot interceptors under a US license.

Peace Talks Remain a Priority

The White House said Trump and Zelenskiy will review efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Earlier, Zelenskiy met US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss possible peace negotiations with Moscow.

Later, Zelenskiy will visit the US Capitol for meetings with all 100 senators.

Aid Delays Spark Political Criticism

The visit also comes as lawmakers criticize delays in US military assistance for Ukraine.

The Pentagon informed Congress that it may not spend the remaining $400 million in approved aid until fiscal year 2029.

As a result, Democrats and several Republicans have urged the administration to release the assistance sooner, arguing that Ukraine urgently needs additional weapons to defend against Russian attacks.
