Three traffic policemen were martyred and three other people injured when unidentified armed men opened fire on a traffic police mobile van in the Wazirabad area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district, police said.
According to a preliminary police report, the attackers targeted the vehicle and fled after the firing. Two passers-by were among those injured and were shifted to hospital for treatment.
District Police Officer Abdul Samad Khan said the attackers also took the traffic police vehicle with them after the assault. Police later recovered the vehicle from the Garah Budha area.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Ismatullah was also injured in the firing and was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, according to the DPO.
Following the attack, police cordoned off the area and deployed additional personnel at major roads and other possible escape routes, including pedestrian tracks. A search operation was launched to trace and arrest the suspects.

The identity of the attackers and the motive behind the assault were not immediately established.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief over the deaths and sought a report from the relevant senior authorities. He conveyed condolences to the families and colleagues of the martyred policemen and directed officials to ensure medical treatment for those injured.
The attack comes amid continued security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police and other security personnel have faced repeated attacks in recent months.
