Sri Lankan Consulate Hosts Vibrant Surya Udanaya 26, The Sinhala Tamil New Year Celebration Celebration in Karachi

Karachi: The Consulate of Sri Lanka organized a colorful and lively celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year (Surya Udanaya) at the lush lawns of Iqra University Defence Campus. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Sri Lankan community residing in Karachi, as well as Sri Lankan students studying at various educational institutions.

The ceremony featured a range of traditional games and cultural activities, creating a festive and engaging atmosphere. Addressing the gathering, H. E. Sanjeewa Pattiwila the Consul General of Sri Lanka said that the festival is not just the beginning of a new year but a symbol of unity, harmony, and renewed hope. He noted that Surya Udanaya connects people with their cultural roots while fostering understanding among diverse communities. He further emphasized the longstanding and friendly relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, adding that such cultural events play a vital role in strengthening people-to-people ties. He also appreciated the active participation of Sri Lankan students, calling them cultural ambassadors of their country.

A variety of traditional Sri Lankan dishes were also served at the event, including Kiribath, Kokis, and the popular fish dish Fish Ambul Thiyal, which were thoroughly enjoyed by the attendees. The strong presence of the Sri Lankan community added warmth and authenticity to the celebration.

Prominent Pakistani business figures also attended the event, including the Representatives of the Pakistan Sri Lanka Business Forum Mr Aslam Pakhali, along with Sohail Shamim Firpo, Atif Farooqi, and Athar Iqbal, highlighting the growing economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
