Karachi: The Sogetsu Study Group Karachi celebrated national spirit with a creative Ikebana workshop and demonstration at the Japanese Culture Center. The event, led by senior member Perin Mooraj, who holds the prestigious Komon degree, combined floral artistry with patriotic themes.
The program began with the national anthem, followed by the distribution of earthen containers painted in the colors of Pakistan’s flag. Mooraj’s unique arrangements reflected the skyline of Karachi, using iron plant leaves and money plant to represent high-rise buildings, while bunches of white ixora symbolized the city’s bustling population. The addition of sago palm, also known as kangi palm, enriched the artistic display.
All floral creations were themed in green and white, symbolizing Pakistan’s national colors. During the ceremony, upcoming members Mehreen Shahzad, Fauzia Mansoor, and Tarannum Lakda were awarded certificates by Sogetsu founder member and teacher Shahina Zubairi.
The event highlighted the cultural harmony and artistic depth of Ikebana, while reinforcing the strong ties between Japanese traditions and Pakistani values.
