The Faculty of Information Technology organised the drive under the theme “Clean Shores, Green Pakistan.” The activity took place at Sea View Beach in Karachi and focused on environmental protection and civic responsibility.
Dr. Mansoor Ahmed Khuhro, Chairperson of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences, joined faculty members and students during the cleanup. Participants collected waste from the beach and highlighted the need to protect public spaces from pollution.
Students pledge to protect environment
The university community said environmental degradation has become a serious global challenge. Pollution continues to affect rivers, seas, lakes, canals and other waterways.
Therefore, keeping these natural resources clean can benefit both communities and the wider environment. The participants also stressed that young people can play an important role in promoting sustainable practices.
Dr. Mansoor Ahmed Khuhro said the activity formed part of SMIU’s civic engagement initiatives for Independence Day. He added that students had joined hands to clean the beach and promote a cleaner and greener Pakistan.
Independence celebrations continue
The university is observing its Independence Day celebrations from August 1 to August 14. This year’s programme includes activities that encourage students to contribute to society and their environment.
Dr. Khuhro said Pakistan is celebrating its 79th Independence anniversary through such community-focused initiatives. He also urged people to give back to the country by protecting the environment and helping build a sustainable future.
