Sindh Government Declares Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Land Mafia, Major Karachi Crackdown to Begin Soon

The Sindh Government has announced a large-scale crackdown against land mafia networks and illegal encroachments in Karachi, declaring a strict zero-tolerance policy aimed at curbing unlawful land occupations and protecting public property.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah. The meeting was attended by Provincial Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Sindh Assembly Member Qasim Soomro, senior police officials, and heads of key development authorities.

Among the participants were the Additional IG Karachi, Deputy Commissioner West, SSP West, and senior representatives of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Malir Development Authority (MDA), and Lyari Development Authority (LDA).

During the meeting, officials agreed to launch a comprehensive operation against illegal encroachments and organized land-grabbing activities across the city. The operation will be conducted under the supervision of deputy commissioners with the support of police and Rangers.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah stated that the action is being initiated under the direct instructions of the Sindh leadership and emphasized that indiscriminate action would be taken against all elements involved in illegal land occupation, regardless of political or social influence.

He warned that if complaints of illegal occupation emerge in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Revenue departments, anti-encroachment units, police stations, or development authorities, FIRs would be registered against responsible officers and arrests would follow where necessary.

The minister further announced that any evidence of collusion between government officials and land mafia groups would result in strict departmental and legal action.

Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar assured full legal support for the operation and directed all concerned SHOs to actively participate in enforcement measures. He also instructed development authorities to update land records and documentation to prevent legal disputes and complications during court proceedings.

The meeting also reviewed allegations regarding the illegal sale of land in Surjani Town Sectors 10 and 13 by a local builder. Authorities warned citizens to remain cautious of fraudulent builders and unauthorized housing schemes.

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab highlighted concerns over rapidly expanding informal settlements, stating that illegal encroachments and katchi abadis are often established overnight without accountability. He announced that a comprehensive survey of katchi abadis and goth abadis would also be conducted to improve monitoring and urban management.

Officials stressed that all actions during the anti-encroachment operation would be carried out strictly within the framework of the law to ensure that no injustice occurs during enforcement activities.

Authorities confirmed that practical operations against land mafia groups across Karachi are expected to begin within the next few days.
