Sehri Gatherings Gain Momentum in Karachi During Ramadan

Sobia Khan

Karachi: A new social trend is taking shape in Karachi during the holy month of Ramadan, with Sehri gatherings rapidly gaining popularity among corporate groups, social circles and hospitality venues across the city.

The growing trend was highlighted by Karachi Marriott Hotel General Manager Raza Abbas while speaking informally to journalists on the sidelines of the hotel’s annual Ramadan Grand Majlis event.

Shift from Iftar to Sehri Events

Abbas noted that while Iftar dinners remain a traditional feature of Ramadan, their activity tends to slow during the first ten days due to extended Taraweeh prayers. In contrast, Sehri gatherings — late-night meals before the pre-dawn fast — are witnessing a noticeable rise in demand.

“Sehri programmes are strengthening social connections and are also contributing to economic activity within the hospitality sector,” he said.

Hotels and event venues in the metropolis are increasingly hosting corporate Sehri meetups, networking sessions and informal social gatherings that extend late into the night.

Ramadan Grand Majlis Brings Diverse Guests Together

The Marriott Ramadan Grand Majlis gathered diplomats, business leaders, media representatives and corporate executives in an elegant and culturally themed setting.

This year’s event featured a Moroccan-inspired theme, with the venue decorated in traditional North African colours, ornate lanterns and cultural motifs designed to create a distinctive Ramadan atmosphere.

Guests were served a selection of Moroccan dishes including aromatic rice, tagine, couscous and traditional desserts, offering attendees a rich culinary experience.

Hospitality Sector Sees Positive Outlook

According to Abbas, increasing interest from international investors and multinational companies is also benefiting Pakistan’s hospitality industry.

He noted that visits by corporate delegations, foreign missions and government representatives have contributed to higher room occupancy rates at five-star hotels.

“The outlook for Pakistan’s hospitality sector in 2026 is very positive,” he said, adding that several hotel expansion projects are currently in the pipeline, including initiatives aimed at promoting tourism in partnership with the government of Sindh.

Cultural Diplomacy and Business Networking

Diplomats from Ivory Coast and Germany attending the event appreciated the initiative, saying such gatherings help promote intercultural understanding and strengthen bilateral relations.

Participants also noted that Ramadan events like the Grand Majlis provide valuable opportunities for dialogue, networking and cultural exchange among the diplomatic, business and media communities.

Corporate Sehri Events on the Rise

Investors linked to Karachi’s construction sector observed that the growing preference for Sehri gatherings has triggered an increase in corporate-hosted late-night events, particularly in connection with project launches planned around Eid.

The evening concluded with a lucky draw for guests.
