Houston, TX: The Society for Children In Need of Special Assistance (SCINOSA), Pakistan’s pioneering institution dedicated to supporting children with Down Syndrome and intellectual disabilities, hosted its first-ever international event in Houston to raise awareness of its ongoing work and mission since 1960.
The SCINOSA Awareness Brunch was a sold-out success, attracting a diverse audience of community leaders, philanthropists, and advocates for special education. Distinguished guests included artist and philanthropist Jimmy Engineer, Arif Gafur, president of TCF USA, and Dr. Jawed Ashraf, president of the Pakistan Business Association.
Showcasing decades of service and impact
Attendees were briefed on SCINOSA’s long-standing contributions in Pakistan, including its comprehensive programs for therapy, education, and vocational training. The institute, known for its inclusive approach to special education, also exhibited products made by its students, offering a glimpse into their creativity and progress toward self-reliance.
Marking a milestone in global engagement
Speaking at the event, SCINOSA trustee Rahat Khan described the Houston brunch as a turning point for the organization.
“While we have had many individual donors supporting us from around the world for decades, this is the first time we have formally introduced SCINOSA to an international audience,” she said. “For me, this has been a dream come true, marking the beginning of spreading our wings globally. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this event possible.”
