A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) reviewed by Reuters showed that Samsung Electronics America will eliminate 739 positions in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

Samsung Electronics America manages the sales and marketing of the company’s smartphones, televisions, displays, and home appliances in the United States. According to a September press release from U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer, the company employs about 1,200 workers in New Jersey.

Samsung said the workforce changes are part of its headquarters relocation to Texas. The company explained that some employees may choose not to relocate, while it will reorganise certain business functions to better match its strategic priorities.

The company added that it had offered relocation opportunities to most affected employees in New Jersey. Samsung also said it would be inaccurate to describe the workforce changes simply as layoffs. However, it did not disclose how many positions the relocation would ultimately affect.

Reuters first reported the WARN notice, which U.S. law requires companies to file before carrying out large-scale workforce reductions or plant closures.
