Ecopetrol said the attack exposed data linked to approximately 3,300 user accounts. However, it reported no disruption to operations or production. The company also confirmed that it has not suffered any direct financial losses so far.

The company added that none of the stolen data had appeared online as of Friday.

Ecopetrol said it has not identified the attackers. However, the hackers demanded payment and threatened to release the stolen information publicly.

According to the company, the breach targeted cloud-based file storage systems used by Ecopetrol and 15 subsidiaries. Its cybersecurity teams also blocked an attempted ransomware attack.

Officials continue to assess the full extent of the breach. They warned that the compromised files may include confidential, proprietary, or personal information.

Ecopetrol said the incident could harm its reputation and affect future business operations. It also warned that the breach could influence its financial performance if the stolen data is released.
