Shanghai: President Asif Ali Zardari visited the Memorial of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Shanghai, accompanied by First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The memorial, located in Shanghai’s historic French Concession, preserves the site of the CPC’s founding congress in July 1921. President Zardari toured the restored shikumen-style building and exhibition halls displaying rare relics and documents chronicling China’s revolutionary history.
Marking the 104th anniversary of the CPC’s founding, the President praised China’s transformation from colonial-era struggles to becoming a global power in economy, technology, and defense.
In the visitors’ book, President Zardari wrote: “It is an honour to visit this historical site where the Communist Party of China was founded. I convey the respect of the people of Pakistan for China’s journey to becoming a major global power. This friendship, nurtured by the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping, has grown rapidly and remains an all-weather partnership. Our historic ties will continue to strengthen and flourish.”
The President commended the memorial’s preservation efforts, noting that it offers valuable insight into the CPC’s early struggles and vision. Recognized as a national cultural heritage site, the memorial is one of Shanghai’s foremost historical landmarks.
The visit was also attended by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Sindh Ministers Sharjeel Memon and Syed Nasir Shah, China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Jiang Zaidong, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Mr. Khalil Hashmi.
