PM Shehbaz Calls for Pakistan-China Unity to Restore Middle East Peace

Beijing: Shehbaz Sharif on Monday stressed the need for Pakistan and China to stay united in efforts to restore peace in the Middle East amid the ongoing US-Israel conflict involving Iran.

The prime minister made the remarks during delegation-level talks with Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Pakistan Playing ‘Sincere Role’ in Mediation

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz said the world was passing through a critical moment. He added that regional tensions had hurt both the Middle East economy and global markets.

“I think we have to really be together, so that the world at large is at peace and business as usual starts again,” the premier said.

Meanwhile, Asim Munir also attended the talks after concluding his visit to Tehran.

PM Shehbaz said Pakistan had played a “very sincere role” in mediation efforts between the United States and Iran.

He noted that the army chief remained in contact with both Iranian and American leaders. In addition, Ishaq Dar also held discussions with regional counterparts to support peace efforts.

Pakistan Supports China’s Peace Agenda

Furthermore, PM Shehbaz thanked Xi Jinping and the Chinese leadership for supporting Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and secure a ceasefire.

He added that Pakistan fully endorsed President Xi’s four-point peace agenda.

“We hope and pray that peace will be restored forever,” PM Shehbaz said. “Things are moving in the right direction.”

Leaders Mark 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations

At the start of his remarks, PM Shehbaz thanked the Chinese government for the warm welcome. He also praised China’s rapid development.

The premier highlighted that the visit came at a historic moment. Pakistan and China are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations this year.

“Our founding fathers laid a strong foundation between the two countries,” he said. “Now, we are carrying forward that legacy.”

Additionally, the prime minister expressed condolences over the deadly gas explosion at a coal mine in Shanxi that killed at least 82 people.

Guard of Honour Presented in Beijing

Earlier, PM Shehbaz received a guard of honour upon his arrival at the Great Hall of the People.

Both leaders introduced their delegations and witnessed the national anthems of Pakistan and China.

During the visit, PM Shehbaz will also meet Xi Jinping and attend a reception marking the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic ties.

Moreover, senior officials accompanying the premier include Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar and Shaza Fatima Khawaja.
