Philippines School Shooting: Three killed and five injured in attack at high school

Philippines School Shooting investigators are examining a deadly attack at a high school in central Philippines that left at least three people dead and five others injured.

The shooting took place at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Leyte province, at around 9:00 a.m. local time on Monday, according to police officials.

Authorities said emergency responders rushed the injured victims to nearby hospitals, where they received medical treatment.

In a statement, regional police confirmed that investigators are working to establish the circumstances and motive behind the attack.

State broadcaster PTV reported that police arrested two suspects, both believed to be students. Officers detained one of the suspects at the scene shortly after the shooting.

“The PNP has already caught the suspects and acted swiftly,” presidential spokesperson Claire Castro told reporters.

School shootings are rare in the Philippines, where firearm ownership is subject to strict regulations. However, authorities continue to face challenges linked to the country’s illegal weapons market.

The incident has revived concerns about gun-related violence and security measures at educational institutions across the country.

A similar high-profile shooting occurred in 2022 at Ateneo de Manila University, where three people, including a former city mayor, were killed before a graduation ceremony. Authorities later described that attack as an assassination linked to personal disputes.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims or suspects involved in Monday’s shooting.
