In his address, Ambassador Fernandez recalled the Philippines’ historical diplomatic presence in Karachi, stating, “We even had our embassy here when Karachi was the capital. Truly, Karachi never sleeps.” He highlighted the friendly relations between the two countries and noted that trade volume currently favors Pakistan, expressing hope that this positive trend would continue and expand during his tenure.

Honorary Consul Dr. Imran Yousuf Emphasizes Bilateral Growth

Dr. Imran Yousuf, Honorary Consul General of the Philippines in Karachi and Chairman of Transformation International, delivered a passionate speech celebrating the growing relationship between Pakistan and the Philippines. Welcoming diplomats, ministers, and members of the Filipino community, he said, “Our Filipino community are the true ambassadors of their country. Their energy and dedication reflect the best of their culture.”

He warmly welcomed Ambassador Fernandez on his first visit to Karachi and acknowledged the presence of First Lady Alicia Fernandez, a globally recognized artist.

Dr. Imran also thanked officials from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior government representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps for their support, describing them as “allies in our shared mission for peace, inclusion, and progress.”

Trade, IT Cooperation, and Social Impact Initiatives

Dr. Imran revealed that bilateral trade between Pakistan and the Philippines exceeds $300 million, making the Philippines the only ASEAN country where the trade balance favors Pakistan. He stressed the untapped potential for IT collaboration, stating, “With the Philippines’ IT industry valued at $38 billion and projected to reach $59 billion within three years, we see immense potential for knowledge-sharing and partnership. The Philippines is ready to support Pakistan in boosting its IT exports.”

The 127th National Day celebration not only honored the Philippines’ independence but also underscored the deep-rooted and evolving friendship between the people of Pakistan and the Philippines. The event concluded on a high note with cultural exchanges, diplomatic engagement, and a shared commitment to future cooperation.
