Petrol Prices: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik says the government has provided consumers with relief that exceeds the recent decline in international petroleum prices.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Malik said the first ten days of Muharram had passed peacefully. He praised the Pakistan Army, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for maintaining law and order during the period.
The minister said regional tensions had eased following the end of the conflict between Iran and the United States, adding that the development had contributed to a fall in global petroleum prices.
Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government was closely monitoring international oil markets and remained proactive in reviewing domestic fuel prices. He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ensured the benefits of lower international prices were passed on to the public without delay.
The petroleum minister said the government had delivered greater relief than the recent reduction in global oil prices. He also accused some groups of misleading the public about fuel pricing.
Malik said Pakistan would continue to honour its international agreements while also considering the possibility of importing lower-cost oil and gas from Iran.
