Karachi: The Russian Consulate in Karachi held a ceremony to celebrate People’s Unity Day. This annual event brings together officials, diplomats, and community members. It honors Russia’s spirit of resilience and unity on November 4.

During the event, Consul General Andrey V. Fedorov spoke about the growing cooperation between Russia and Pakistan. He noted that the two countries are strengthening their ties through high-level meetings. As a result, trade between Russia and Pakistan has now exceeded $2 billion. Fedorov also mentioned the importance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for regional stability. “The number of high-level meetings has increased significantly,” he said. For instance, he referenced a recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Fedorov shared the history behind People’s Unity Day. He talked about Russia’s fight for independence in 1612, when the nation united to expel foreign invaders. This spirit of resilience continues to inspire the Russian people today.

Growing Diplomatic and Economic Relations

Fedorov highlighted recent developments in Russia-Pakistan relations. He mentioned the Russia-Pakistan Trade and Investment Forum in Moscow and the SCO Heads of Governments Meeting in Islamabad. These events have helped boost economic cooperation. He expressed hope for future projects and collaboration based on these successful meetings. He also noted visits from high-ranking Russian officials to Pakistan.

The event was attended by Sindh Governor Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other senior officials and diplomats. The celebration included a cake-cutting ceremony, performances by Russian artists, and a photo exhibition that showcased Russian culture.
