PAPP Celebrates World Photography Day in Karachi

Karachi: The Pakistan Association of Press Photographers (PAPP), in collaboration with Alliance Française, organized a special event on World Photography Day to honor the contributions of press photographers.
The event was graced by Director General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Irfan Soomro, who attended as the chief guest. Distinguished diplomats including Malaysian Consul General in Karachi Herman Hardynata Ahmad, Deputy Consul General of France Manolya Senol, Honorary Consul General of Ivory Coast Fazal Karim Dadbhai, and Advisor to Governor Sindh Tariq Mustafa, along with renowned business leader Majeed Aziz and senior journalist GM Jamali, were also present.
Speaking at the occasion, DG Irfan Soomro praised the relentless work of photographers, stating that regardless of weather or circumstances, press photographers perform their duties with courage and commitment. He assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stands ready to support photographers in their professional journey.
The Consul General of Malaysia, Herman Hardynata Ahmad, highlighted that “a picture is not just a picture but a story worth a thousand words”, applauding Pakistani photographers for their dedication. Similarly, Deputy Consul General of France, Manolya Senol, noted that in the era of AI and Photoshop, the role of photographers in capturing reality has become even more vital.
Advisor to the Governor of Sindh, Tariq Mustafa, described photographers as “the eyes of society,” while GM Jamali emphasized that press photographers’ work brings societal issues to light.
PAPP Secretary General Mohammad Noman announced upcoming training workshops for photojournalists with international experts, while PAPP President Mohammad Jamil expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of shields and prizes among photographers and guests, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony to mark World Photography Day.
