Karachi: Pakistan’s tourism industry witnessed remarkable growth in 2024, contributing to the country’s economic stability and global recognition. The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), and the federal government played a crucial role in this progress. Additionally, the efforts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Tourism Board, Kashmir Tourism, and Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism Board significantly boosted Pakistan’s tourism sector.
As a resident of Karachi, I commend the Sindh government, the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC), the Minister of Tourism and Culture, and particularly the Governor of Sindh for their dedication to promoting tourism. The Governor took historic steps by organizing international events at the Governor House and opening its doors to the public for the first time. Ordinary citizens, including students, business leaders, religious scholars, and minority groups, had the opportunity to visit this historic site.
Several major events took place in Karachi, including the Charter of Karachi, Sindhi Culture Day, and Muhajir Culture Day. On December 24, 2024, a grand celebration featured lucky draws distributing motorbikes and Umrah tickets to the public. The event attracted thousands of Karachiites, who enjoyed cultural performances and musical nights.
On December 25, 2024, a cake-cutting ceremony marked the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, followed by a grand Christmas celebration attended by Christian community members, religious leaders, diplomats, and consul generals. A winter evening barbecue dinner was hosted on the Governor House lawn, where gifts were distributed by Governor Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori.
During the event, the Governor announced that iftar at the Governor House would be open to the public during Ramadan 2025, with lucky draws distributing Umrah tickets, plots, and other gifts.
A major milestone for the industry was the Great Travel and Tourism Exhibition, held in January 2025 at Expo Karachi during the Pakistan Travel Mart. The event surpassed expectations, bringing together local and international exhibitors, including tour operators, travel agents, hotels, airlines, and tourism boards. Notable participants included:
Key figures like Sardar Rafique Khan and Ali Hamdani played a pivotal role in making the event a success. Special appreciation goes to Governor Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori and Sindh Minister of Tourism and Culture Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, whose presence elevated the event’s significance.
The rapid growth of Pakistan’s tourism industry is shaping a positive global perception of the country. Pakistan is a safe and beautiful destination for both local and international visitors, with its rich culture and breathtaking landscapes. Events like the Pakistan Travel Mart highlight the country’s potential as a leading tourist destination.
Moving forward, continued efforts in organizing such grand-scale events will further strengthen Pakistan’s tourism sector, economic stability, and international reputation. Together, we can build a prosperous and united Pakistan, welcoming the world with open arms.
