Chasing 211 for victory, Pakistan failed to build momentum on a challenging pitch. The visitors were bowled out for 120 in 40.2 overs, shortly after the tea interval.
Seales Leads West Indies Attack
Jayden Seales starred with the ball and claimed 5-20. He dismissed Mohammad Abbas for 23 to wrap up the match.
Pakistan slumped to 71-9 before Abbas and captain Babar Azam added 49 runs for the final wicket. Their partnership delayed defeat but could not change the outcome.
Babar remained unbeaten with 58, while no other batter made a significant contribution.
Pakistan’s Batting Struggles Continue
Earlier, Pakistan surrendered a 29-run first-innings deficit after collapsing from 244-3 to 282 all out.
The batting collapse mirrored the team’s recent struggles in Test cricket. Pakistan has now lost four consecutive Tests, including eight straight away Tests. The team has also suffered 13 defeats in its last 17 Test matches.
Abbas Shines Despite Defeat
Despite the loss, Mohammad Abbas produced an outstanding bowling performance.
He finished with 5-22 in the second innings and restricted West Indies after they resumed play on the fourth morning.
However, Shamar Joseph’s quick 38 off 27 balls, featuring four sixes and one four, helped West Indies extend their lead before the innings ended on 181.
Greaves Named Player of the Match
Justin Greaves delivered another impressive performance for the home side.
The Barbadian all-rounder claimed two wickets in Pakistan’s second innings and finished with match figures of 7-39. He received the Player of the Match award.
Greaves credited discipline for the victory and said the bowlers followed Mohammad Abbas’ approach by maintaining consistent lines and lengths.
Captains React
Babar Azam admitted Pakistan failed to build partnerships despite preparing for the challenging conditions.
He praised the West Indies bowlers for making full use of the pitch and the new ball.
Meanwhile, West Indies captain Roston Chase welcomed his team’s collective effort. He said every player contributed at important moments instead of relying on just one or two individuals.
Second Test Awaits
The second and final Test will begin on Sunday at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
Pakistan will look to level the series, while West Indies will aim to complete a clean sweep.
