KARACHI: Pakistan Pharmaceuticals can significantly expand their presence in European markets if manufacturers meet European Union (EU) quality, regulatory and certification standards, industrialist Khurram Khalil Nainitalwala said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a luncheon hosted in honour of German Consul General Thomas E. Schultze, Nainitalwala said Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry has the capability to produce globally competitive products by adopting advanced manufacturing technologies and international best practices.
He said products such as oral care, beauty care and other pharmaceutical items could gain wider acceptance across Europe if manufacturers fully comply with EU regulations and quality requirements.
According to Nainitalwala, Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector has strengthened its production capacity by using advanced machinery and technology imported from Germany. He said these investments have improved product quality and positioned local manufacturers to compete in international markets.
He added that closer economic cooperation between Pakistan and Germany could help local pharmaceutical companies secure greater access to European markets and increase export volumes.
Addressing the gathering, German Consul General Thomas E. Schultze said Germany and other European countries continue to offer important export opportunities for Pakistani businesses.
He pointed to Heimtextil, Germany’s annual international trade fair, as an example of Europe’s strong demand for high-quality products that meet internationally recognised standards.
Schultze said Pakistani pharmaceutical products have strong export potential in Europe, provided manufacturers comply with EU regulatory, quality and certification requirements.
He added that meeting internationally accepted standards would improve the competitiveness of Pakistani products and create new opportunities for exporters.
Participants at the luncheon also discussed ways to strengthen Pakistan-Germany trade relations through greater investment, technology transfer, industrial collaboration and enhanced commercial partnerships.
