Pakistan Diplomacy: French Ambassador Nicolas Galey Praises Islamabad’s US-Iran Mediation

KARACHI: Pakistan Diplomacy has received praise from French Ambassador Nicolas Galey, who lauded Islamabad’s mediation efforts to help resolve the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

Galey made the remarks at a farewell reception marking the completion of his four-year assignment in Pakistan. French Consul General in Karachi Alex Chahtahtinsky also attended the event as he completed his tenure.

The Board of Management of the Quaid-e-Azam House Museum hosted the reception.

Galey said Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement had improved the country’s image and reputation internationally. He added that the international community, including France, had recognised Islamabad’s efforts.

The French envoy noted that Pakistan continued to engage with parties involved in the conflict. He referred to the recent visit of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to Tehran as part of Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts.

Galey said Pakistan had played a valuable role in helping secure an initial ceasefire. He described Islamabad as an increasingly influential actor in the complex regional crisis.

The ambassador is returning to France after four years in Pakistan. He said he had greatly enjoyed his time in the country, particularly his visits to Karachi.

Chahtahtinsky also described his four-year tenure in Karachi as one of the most memorable periods of his career.

He said Pakistan had now firmly placed itself “on the world map” through its mediation efforts and continued attempts to facilitate a ceasefire and a political settlement.

Recalling his arrival in Pakistan four years ago, Chahtahtinsky said the country faced a difficult international image and was often associated in Europe with terrorism and crime.

He said Pakistan had since repositioned itself as a peacemaker. While acknowledging that terrorism remained an issue, he said security conditions had improved and crime had declined significantly.

According to Chahtahtinsky, Pakistan was increasingly being viewed as part of the solution rather than part of the problem because of its diplomatic initiatives.

The outgoing consul general also highlighted Pakistan’s long-term potential. He said the country could become one of the world’s leading nations if it invested in educating its young population and addressed challenges in healthcare.
