Karachi: Funeral prayers for renowned qawwal Ahmed Sabri and other victims of the recent Qalat terrorist attack were offered in Karachi.
Prominent political leaders, including Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, MQM-P leaders Dr Farooq Sattar and Anees Qaimkhani, and Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Munim Zafar, attended the funeral ceremony to pay their respects.
Victims Were En Route to Perform
Qawwal Majid Sabri, visibly emotional, confirmed that his brother Ahmed Sabri and nephew Raza Sabri were among those martyred in the deadly attack. “There were 17 members of our qawwali group in the vehicle. We were traveling for a performance when we were attacked. We are artists — what was our fault?” said fellow qawwal Nadeem Sabri.
Qalat Attack Details and Condemnation
The attack occurred on July 16, near Qalat, where unidentified assailants opened fire and threw hand grenades at a passenger coach. Three people were martyred and 13 others injured.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori condemned the incident, alleging the involvement of India’s intelligence agency RAW in the recent wave of terrorism. “The enemy aims to create chaos, but the nation remains united,” he stated.
