Meta AI Launches in Urdu, Boosting Pakistan’s Digital Transformation Drive

Karachi: Meta has officially launched Meta AI in Urdu for users in Pakistan, expanding its artificial intelligence offerings to support the country’s digital transformation goals. The announcement was made at the event “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation”, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT).

As part of the initiative, Meta also introduced an experimental program on AI education and government digital transformation in Pakistan. The launch marks a key step in making AI tools more accessible to Urdu-speaking users, enabling wider engagement with technology in the country.

The company further unveiled a localized edition of the guide “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama”, developed with Deloitte and supported by MoITT. The publication details how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can enhance governance, improve public services, and strengthen data sovereignty. It also highlights best practices from several Asia-Pacific nations, including Pakistan.

In addition, Meta launched the AI Literacy Program in partnership with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp. The initiative aims to train 350 university teachers in basic AI skills, empowering them to prepare students for the evolving demands of the digital economy.

The company also announced the upcoming Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 program, which will connect public institutions with Meta’s technologies and global best practices. The program will facilitate collaboration between public and private sector experts to advance Pakistan’s digital governance infrastructure.

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the launch reflects the government’s commitment to the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision.

“The inclusion of Urdu in Meta AI makes technology more inclusive and accessible,” she said. “Our partnership with Meta promotes AI education, digital transformation, and innovation across government and educational institutions.”

Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, added that the company is committed to supporting Pakistan’s digital advancement.

“We are delighted that Meta AI is now available in Urdu, giving the local community new opportunities to engage with technology in their own language,” he said.
