Islamabad: Authorities have registered a major cyber fraud case involving an alleged large-scale online investment scam operated through the “Gold Box” and “GLBL” mobile applications, where hundreds of citizens were reportedly defrauded of millions of rupees.
According to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), an FIR has been filed under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and fraud-related provisions against multiple suspects, including several Chinese nationals. The case has revealed that over 270 victims have so far come forward.
The FIR states that more than Rs. 134 million were collected from investors under the guise of “blind box investment packages,” which promised unusually high daily returns ranging from 0.5% to 1%. One complainant alone reported a loss of Rs. 54.1 million.
Investigators revealed that the fraudulent network was allegedly operating from the Blue Area in Islamabad. Victims were instructed to deposit funds into designated accounts, but were later unable to withdraw their money after the platform abruptly stopped functioning.
Chinese national Huang Ruofeng has been named as the main accused, along with key executives of the company, including its CFO, CTO, and marketing director. Authorities have launched further arrests and expanded financial investigations.
Officials warned citizens to remain cautious of online investment schemes offering unrealistic profits and advised verifying platforms before investing. Cybercrime units are currently tracing banking records and digital evidence linked to the case.
