Lani Pallister edged Canada’s Summer McIntosh to win the women’s 200 metres freestyle title at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California, on Wednesday.
Pallister touched the wall in 1:53.67, finishing 0.19 seconds ahead of McIntosh.
The Canadian launched a late challenge in the closing stages. However, Pallister responded strongly to secure victory.
New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather finished third.
Pallister Eyes Future Olympic Challenge
Pallister said competing at the Pan Pacific Championships offered an early taste of the Olympic competition ahead.
“Racing this week at Pan Pac is the first taste of racing at the Olympics in two years’ time,” she said poolside.

The Australian added that she rarely competes in the individual 200m freestyle and was pleased to record a time of 1:53.
Olympic Champion Continues Strong Run
The 24-year-old Pallister won Olympic gold with Australia’s 4x200m freestyle relay team at the Paris Games in 2024.
She also secured silver in the 800m freestyle at last year’s World Championships in Singapore.
American star Katie Ledecky won that race, with Pallister taking second and McIntosh finishing behind her.
