Karachi: The Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology will hold its 23rd convocation ceremony on April 20, 2026, at the Expo Centre Karachi.

The Governor of Sindh, Nehal Hashmi, will attend the event as the chief guest. Approximately 700 graduates from various disciplines will be awarded their degrees during the ceremony. Students demonstrating outstanding academic performance will receive gold and silver medals from the governor. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club by KIET President Prof. Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Pro Chancellor Dr Yousuf Zaidi, Chief Legal Advisor Barrister Shaher Hassan, and Director Quality Assurance Prof. Dr Sajida Parveen. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan stated that KIET’s mission extends beyond education to fostering positive and lasting societal change. He emphasized the institute’s commitment to providing inclusive quality education, particularly to students who may not have access to large universities.

Over the past 25 years, KIET has produced more than 14,000 graduates who are contributing to Pakistan’s economy and society, as well as holding key positions in organizations worldwide. He highlighted that KIET students have earned international recognition, particularly in programming competitions such as the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). The institute has also secured over Rs200 million in competitive research funding and established partnerships with various national and international organizations.

More than 60 research papers by KIET faculty have been published in international journals this year alone. Dr. Khan added that KIET, as a technology-focused university, prioritizes fields such as computer science, data science, and cybersecurity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the institute maintained high-quality digital education and contributed to national initiatives like the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence. Pro Chancellor Dr Yousuf Zaidi noted that KIET continues to uphold high standards in higher education. He referenced the newly established principal campus at Ahsanabad on the Super Highway, equipped with state-of-the-art academic facilities.

He said around 700 graduates will enter various industries this year, contributing their skills and knowledge. Barrister Shaher Hassan announced the launch of a new academic initiative in Karachi, including plans for a modern campus in a central location. The campus will primarily offer programs in computer science and other advanced scientific fields. He confirmed that the project has received formal approval from the Higher Education Commission, whose support has been instrumental. He added that the new campus aims to promote quality education and create new opportunities for students. Further details will be shared upon completion of construction and arrangements. The KIET administration expressed confidence in continued growth and reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing educational standards and preparing students to meet future challenges.
