Kharadar General Hospital hosted a nursing research seminar in Karachi, bringing together healthcare professionals, academics and students to promote research, innovation and professional development in Pakistan’s nursing sector.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who attended the event as chief guest, said selfless service remains the foundation of humanity’s well-being. He praised institutions and philanthropists that invest in education, training, research and public service, describing them as valuable national assets.
During his visit, the mayor toured several departments of the hospital and attended the research seminar organised by the School of Nursing. He reviewed research presentations by nursing students and awarded certificates of appreciation to students and faculty members for their academic achievements.
Speaking at the event, Kharadar General Hospital President and industrialist Muhammad Bashir Janmuhammad said institutions achieve lasting success through sincerity, selfless service, continuous hard work and dedication. He noted that the hospital has provided quality medical, educational and research services for more than a century, while training thousands of doctors and nurses who now serve in Pakistan and abroad.
Director of the School of Nursing Talat Parveen Shah said Pakistan needs to give greater attention to the nursing profession. She stressed that stronger government support and collaboration with relevant institutions could significantly expand the country’s nursing workforce and improve healthcare services.
Dr Tazeen Saeed Ali, a research scientist at Aga Khan University, highlighted the importance of promoting research within the nursing profession. She said modern research and technical skills are essential for addressing emerging healthcare challenges.
Dr Imad Fahim, Head of Research at Indus University Hospital, said meaningful research requires adherence to established scientific standards. He added that research should contribute to better healthcare policies and improved medical services, while praising the work of young researchers as a positive sign for the future of medicine.
Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr Khalid Iqbal briefed participants on the institution’s healthcare services, while Principal Muhammad Shahid also addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of academic excellence in nursing education.
