Karachi: A group of 24 students from Karachi Grammar School (KGS) recently showcased their footballing talent at Liverpool Football Club’s prestigious International Academy in the United Kingdom.

Hosted at the legendary Anfield side’s training facility, the high-performance camp brought together young players from across the world. The KGS squad trained under the guidance of Liverpool FC’s official coaching staff, participating in rigorous drills, tactical sessions, and competitive matches — all following the famed ‘Liverpool Way’.

KGS Students Win Major Awards

KGS players impressed in the camp’s 5-a-side tournament, securing a spot in the winning team. At the closing ceremony, Liverpool FC coaches presented six top awards — and three were claimed by KGS students:

  • Muhammad Aali Mirza (Grade 10) – Most Skillful Player, Senior Group
  • Syed Rayyan Haider Sherazi (Grade 9) – Most Skillful Player, Middle Group
  • Changez Shafi Khan (Grade 6) – Liverpool Way Award, Junior Group

The Liverpool Way Award, previously won by stars like Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard, is given to players who best demonstrate the club’s values: commitment, ambition, dignity, and unity.

A World-Class Football Experience

Each day at camp began with intensive pitch training, followed by workshops on tactics, football psychology, and team play. Evenings concluded with friendly matches, allowing players to apply their learning in competitive environments. Nike Sports Camp staff ensured the players’ well-being throughout the program.

Over 100 players from countries including Spain, Italy, China, Thailand, Argentina, and the UK trained alongside the KGS contingent.

Pride for Pakistan

“KGS students represented Pakistan with great pride and resilience,” said Akhtar Ali, Football Coach at KGS. “Their dedication and discipline stood out among the international participants.”

KGS Principal Carl P. Lander added, “This wasn’t about fame or tourism — it was about skill-building and perseverance. Watching our students rise to the occasion at a world-class academy was truly fulfilling.”

Growing Football Culture in Pakistan

Karachi Grammar School continues to dominate interschool football competitions, for both boys and girls. Last year, Liverpool legends Michael Owen and Emile Heskey visited KGS, further cementing ties between the institution and global football icons.

While cricket remains dominant in Pakistan, football viewership is booming. Pakistan had the fourth-highest global audience during the last FIFA World Cup, and Premier League matches are gaining massive traction nationwide.

As Pakistan embraces the global football movement, stories like these reflect a promising future for the sport — with young talent like KGS’s leading the way.
