KARACHI: Karachi’s iconic Burns Road could receive a pedestrian-friendly makeover under a proposed redevelopment plan aimed at preserving its historic character while improving public spaces and facilities for residents, visitors and local businesses.
Architect Yasmeen Lari presented the proposed redevelopment model at a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah. The initiative aims to make the popular food street more organized and accessible without losing the traditional atmosphere that defines the area.
Focus on Pedestrian Access and Public Facilities
The proposal prioritizes pedestrians and aims to improve the overall experience for people visiting Burns Road. It also seeks to create a more welcoming environment for residents and business owners while retaining the street’s historic identity.

Residents and Businesses Consulted
According to Shah, local residents and business representatives have been consulted during the planning process. The Karachi mayor and the relevant municipal town administration are also aligned with the initiative, he said.
The proposal seeks to ensure that redevelopment supports the needs of the people who live and work in the area while making the street more attractive to visitors.
Project Timeline Yet to Be Announced
