Karachi Launches Major Air Quality Display Project to Combat Pollution

Karachi: Mayor Murtaza Wahab has inaugurated the city’s new Air Quality Display Project aimed at improving public awareness about pollution levels and environmental safety across Karachi.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the mayor said air quality index displays will be installed on major roads and highways to provide citizens with real-time information regarding the city’s air conditions.

He stated that the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote environmentally friendly policies and strengthen public awareness regarding climate-related challenges.

According to the mayor, more than 50 air quality monitoring devices have already been installed across the city in collaboration with the Climate Action Center. He added that the number of monitoring systems will be expanded further in the coming days.

Murtaza Wahab said the project will not only inform residents about air quality conditions but will also provide precautionary and safety guidelines to help citizens protect themselves from pollution-related health risks.

He emphasized that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is actively pursuing green policies, adding that after introducing green energy initiatives, the city has now also launched a “green fleet” program.

The mayor noted that Pakistan remains among the countries most severely affected by climate change and stressed that collective efforts are necessary to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable urban development.
